PreK
Our lesson was based on self-control. We read the book, "It's Hard to Be Five." Then we did a game where they had to demonstrate self-control but not popping bubbles. We finished up by watching how "Cookie Monster" even shows self-control! This month we also learned how to show others kindness. Our discussion was centered around how words or for "helping" not "hurting". As a class we came up with a list of kind words to use with our peers.

Courage
K- Our character trait this month was "courage". We read the book, "Cloudette" that is about a cloud who shows courage. The class and I came up with times at home and at school when we show courage. Then each student illustrated a way they show courage.
1st- This lesson started by reading the book, "Courage". The class and I recalled the many different ways the book explained courage. Then we watched a short clip from the movie, "A Bug's Life". The students identified a way the character, Flicka, showed courage and then illustrated as well as explained a way they show courage.
2nd- We started our lesson on how mistakes are "ok" and about several inventions that were all created by mistake. Then we discussed how you have to have courage to keep trying when you make mistakes. The students listened to the story, "A Beautiful Oops." Then the students created their own beautiful oops.
3rd- This was the beginning of State Assessments! So we made the correlation between how you have to have courage to take the test and do your best even if it is something new and difficult. I showed a Monster's University Powerpoint that pointed out test-taking strategies and how to relax when test-taking.
